AUDIO DRAMA - DETROIT 1973
“Funked Up in Detroit” © is an audio drama series, set in Detroit 1973.
It is a music dramedy that follows the life of “Gene Michael” – a young musician in his early 20’s, who is the lead singer of a funk-rock band.
The first episode shows Gene’s relationship to music, and what “the funk” means to him. Driving in his Cadillac car and grooving to a new tune, Gene insists that the funk is a way of living, and that it means being yourself everyday, in the face of all the suckers that try to put you down.
Walking down the streets on his way to a gig, Gene meets a homeless Man in an alleyway, named “Jeff”. Gene becomes inspired by Jeff, as the old man plays a harmonica and reminds Gene to keep his eye on the “good stuff” in life.
As the series continues in 2025, “Funked Up in Detroit” will explore the darker side of the music industry, in both a comedic and dramatic fashion. It will focus on the difficulty of choosing between making money from music, or just playing music for the love of it.
More episodes will be released in 2025!
